Building People CIC

The UK needs to build; there is a shortage of skilled workers and the workforce we have lacks diversity.

There are many organisations, initiatives and activities that help people from diverse backgrounds find and succeed in construction and built environment careers, but no single place that people can use to find this support. There is a wide talent pool of diverse and innovative people that offers a solution to current and future challenges faced by industry, but access to this pool is not as simple as it could be.
The Building People solution is a free-to-use web platform that aggregates and integrates with industry-wide activity, networks and initiatives to enable people to find employers, opportunities and resources, and employers to connect with a more diverse range of talent. We enable and assist the organisations and initiatives that provide careers support to diverse and under-represented individuals, and help users find existing opportunities simply by aggregating what already exists.

We have developed a prototype platform that connects people to what already exists. The platform helps users find:

• Organisations that can help
• Relevant and useful information and resources
• Mentoring networks
• Courses, training and events
• Work vacancies

We have also created a ‘Network of Networks’ that brings together organisations and initiatives that work with diverse and under-represented groups in construction and the built environment. This Communities network now totals over 35 organisations and initiatives and we are together identifying shared problems, with Building People leading on the delivery of collaborative solutions.

We're a social enterprise (Community Interest Company) that is creating connections across the built environment to address the industry challenges of skills, diversity & social value.
